American tennis legend Serena Williams has been forced out of the Queen’s Club Championships following the withdrawal of her doubles partner, Victoria Mboko.
Mboko sustained a knee injury during her singles match, which led to her withdrawal from the tournament and brought an abrupt end to their doubles campaign.
Williams, who had recently returned to professional tennis after nearly four years, had won her opening match alongside the Canadian teenager.
The injury means Williams’ comeback at the London tournament lasted just one match, despite initial excitement surrounding her return.
The 44-year-old is now expected to shift focus to upcoming tournaments as she continues her comeback.
