2027 Elections: ADC Unveils Sokoto Venue for Atiku’s Presidential Campaign Flag-Off

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced the venue for the flag-off of its presidential campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections, following concerns over alleged attempts to disrupt the event.

The party said its campaign rally would hold at its state secretariat on Ilorin Road, Sokoto, on Wednesday, Nov. 4.

The ADC State Presidential Campaign Coordinator, Senator Ibrahim Lamido, announced this in a statement, saying the party’s presidential candidate, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, would arrive at the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport in Sokoto at 9 a.m.

Lamido urged party supporters and members of the public to receive Atiku at the airport before proceeding to the campaign venue.

“All local government area and ward executives, mobilisation coordinators, support groups, women and youth organisations are urged to activate their respective structures and ensure maximum participation,” he said.

The announcement comes after the party initially kept the venue secret, citing security concerns and alleged attempts by the Sokoto State Government to frustrate its campaign activities.

The venue had earlier been withheld after the party raised concerns about the safety of its members and supporters amid political tension in the state.

The ADC had also accused the state government of interfering with its preparations, including allegedly pressuring hotel operators to cancel accommodation arrangements for visiting delegates. The allegations have not been independently verified.

The campaign was initially scheduled for Oct. 31 but was postponed to Nov. 4 over what the party described as planning and coordination considerations.

Atiku had also accused the Department of State Services of plotting to disrupt the rally, an allegation the agency said it was investigating.

The Sokoto State Police Command, however, said it had received a request for security coverage and was prepared to provide adequate protection for the event.

The rally is expected to attract ADC leaders and supporters from across the country as the party intensifies its preparations to challenge President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress in 2027.
