Rivers State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Obbo Effanga says June 30th remains the official deadline for the Continuous Voter Registration exercise, CVR.

A report had earlier suggested that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC agreed to extend the CVR exercise by 60 days after a meeting with the House of Representatives Committee on Electoral Matters, a report INEC refuted.

Clarifying this development on Nigeria Info’s Hard Facts, Mr. Effanga noted that though the Commission is open to the possibility of an extension, the INEC timetable remains the same.

Also, reacting to the possibility of an extension due to a case instituted in Court by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, requesting the Court to stop INEC from ending the CVR exercise on June 3oth, Mr. Effanga said that while INEC awaits the Court’s final ruling on the case which was adjourned for hearing on June 29th, a day before INEC's official deadline, registration will continue until June 30th.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner also revealed that the Commission has expanded the scope of its wares to accommodate the increase in the number of registrants.
