Content creator and influencer Iyo Prosper has recounted an alleged abduction by men he believes were police officers. Iyo described how he was abducted, assaulted, and robbed of his savings, which left him traumatised.
Speaking about the incident on Hardfacts with Sam Chinedu, Iyo explained that the attackers were middle-aged men wearing proper police uniforms, which led him to believe they were legitimate officers. He shared that during the abduction, he was under duress, making it difficult to observe his surroundings. He mentioned that tinted windows and the way the men restrained him further hindered his ability to make sense of the situation, causing difficulty in breathing.
The content creator told Sam Chinedu that he reported the incident to the police and appealed for justice, labelling the experience as the height of oppression. He emphasised the impact it had on him, both physically and emotionally, and his need for accountability. He also shared that the experience has made him feel unsafe, as he now fears for his security.
In response to the allegations, the Rivers State Police Command acknowledged a rising trend of criminals impersonating police officers to extort residents. Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Grace Iringe Koko, revealed that Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju has ordered security teams to track down and prosecute the suspects involved in such activities.
