Environmentalist and Former PRO Waste Management Society of Nigeria (WAMASON), Rivers State Chapter, Abu Kame Joseph has highlighted solutions the Rivers State Government can explore to tackle the waste management crisis in Port Harcourt.
This comes as the Rivers State Government moves to end the indiscriminate disposal of waste following residents’ outcry over the disturbing state of heaps of refuse littered all over median strips of major roads in the city.
Earlier, Governor Wike appointed a five-man task force team to supervise the cleaning up of waste in Port Harcourt and its environs.
Speaking on NigeriaInfo’s HardFacts with Dayo Elusakin, Abu said the State Government needs to focus on landfill development, encourage companies to invest, increase the number of compactors in service, and contractors should be well renumerated.
He urged the government to put into consideration these options in order to effectively savage the waste situation in the state.
