Reason Why ASUU Strike Was Suspended Explained.

The National Investment Secretary of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Dr Austen Sado says the eight-month-old strike embarked on by the Union was ‘suspended’ for two reasons.

Sado said these reasons are hinged on legal and moral considerations.

The Court of Appeal had earlier ordered ASUU to resume work with immediate effect. The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila also intervened in an attempt to resolve the impasse between the Federal Government and the union.

Speaking further, Sado said disobeying the court order would amount to losing the moral ground to approach the court "when you feel your rights have been infringed on”, he explained to Dayo Elusakin on Nigeria Info’s Hard Facts.

He said the issues raised by the lecturers can only be resolved when negotiations are concluded and an agreement is signed by both the government and the union.
