Legal adviser and analyst, Chief Festus Oguche, says any foreign invasion or intervention by the United States could amount to a new form of colonialism. He warned that such actions often create room for the abuse of power and should be approached with caution.
Speaking on Nigeria Info’s Hard Facts, Oguche faulted the country’s government for its poor response to violence and the gradual decline of secular values. He recalled that during the administration of Abubakar Malami, the former Attorney General, there was a list of all the sponsors of Boko Haram, yet the government made no effort to bring them to justice.
Oguche urged the government to stop propaganda and take responsibility for addressing insecurity. He also criticised politicians for chasing party interests, citing the recent defections of political leaders, saying, “With the US saying they’re coming to Nigeria, and people are here playing party politics, jumping into another party to seek relevance.”
Furthermore, Oguche cautioned that any US action should not be unilateral. He said such interventions should involve multiple nations or international bodies to ensure fairness and prevent abuse of power, while calling on Nigeria’s leaders to act decisively to protect citizens.
