The Independent National Electoral Commission says a total of 87,209,007 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs)have been collected across Nigeria.

INEC chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, announced this on Thursday during a media briefing at the National Collation Centre in Abuja.

He said a comprehensive breakdown of the figure will be uploaded on its website before Friday evening.

Prof. Yakubu explained that voting as provided in the Electoral Act 2022 makes the use of the Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS) mandatory, adding that the Permanent Voters’ Card (PVC) is equally mandatory.

He used the forum to clarify that the BVAS machine has not in any way been preloaded, stressing that there is a set timeframe within which the BVAS will operate on election day.

The INEC boss said the result viewing portal has been configured to accommodate two million views at a time, due to the global interest in Nigeria’s election.

The INEC chairman and the Inspector General of Police will brief Nigerians later on Friday on the final preparations for the 2023 elections.
