The African Democratic Congress (ADC) says it will set up a network of representatives in major world capitals to boost international engagement.

In a statement released to the press on 4th of April 2026, the party said the move aims to “strengthen the party’s international engagement and promote democratic accountability in Nigeria.”

The ADC said the plan follows what it described as a “growing pattern of undemocratic practices and attacks on opposition members and leaders” since July 2025.

It added that the new Special Representatives Network will create “structured channels of communication” with countries and institutions that support democracy, human rights and the rule of law.

Under the plan, the party will appoint envoys in key cities to act as official contacts with foreign governments, media groups, and Nigerian diaspora communities.

These representatives will give regular briefings on “political developments,” “human rights concerns,” and “allegations of repression against opposition actors,” the party said.

They will also share the ADC’s “policy positions and reform proposals” with international partners.

The party said the goal is to ensure global stakeholders receive “balanced and credible information” about Nigeria, not just official government views.

The ADC listed cities including Washington, London, Brussels, Berlin, Ottawa, Paris, Pretoria, Addis Ababa, Nairobi, Accra, Geneva and New York.

It also announced a “National Documentation Initiative” to track cases such as threats, harassment, arrests and attacks affecting political participation across the country.

The ADC said the move will strengthen its image as a “responsible democratic actor” and a “viable governing alternative” committed to constitutional rule.

This move comes as the party faces a possible delisting as a valid political party by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following the electoral body's controversial decision to refuse correspondence from the party on the basis of its leadership structure.
