Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has denied claims by the African Democratic Congress that the party helped him secure victory in Saturday’s governorship election.

Adeleke, through his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, said he had no electoral deal or partnership with the ADC before, during or after the election.

The governor attributed his victory to God and the people of Osun State, saying the ADC was never part of the alliance that campaigned for his re-election.

He, however, commended political partners who made sacrifices to support his bid, saying their efforts helped make Saturday a victory for the people of the state.

Adeleke said, “I commend political partners who went all out to make Saturday a victory day for all Osun people. But we must clarify, for the sake of history, that ADC was never part of the alliance.”

He added that, with the election now over, he would govern all residents of Osun State regardless of their political affiliation, religion or race.

The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Adeleke the winner in the early hours of Sunday after he polled 511,067 votes.

His closest challenger, the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, scored 444,815 votes, while the ADC candidate, Najeem Salaam, came a distant third with 17,180 votes.

INEC Returning Officer, Professor Joshua Ogunwole, who declared the result at the commission’s collation centre, said 985,079 votes were valid, while 20,721 votes were rejected.

The total number of votes cast was 1,005,800.
