The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) has launched its 32nd Annual Meetings in Abuja, under the theme “Building the Future on Decades of Resilience.”

The event marks a pivotal moment in the bank's history, celebrating 32 years of significant contributions to Africa's economic landscape.

In his opening address, Afreximbank President Prof. Benedict Oramah emphasized the meetings' role in fostering dialogue and developing a strategic roadmap for Africa's development. He highlighted the bank’s transformation from uncertain beginnings to becoming a key multilateral financial institution on the continent.

Oramah noted that Afreximbank has mobilized over $250 billion into Africa, supporting industries and providing crucial assistance during crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic and supply chain disruptions. He underscored the bank's journey as a testament to resilience and belief in Africa’s potential.

Against a backdrop of global challenges like deglobalization and geopolitical uncertainty, Oramah stressed the importance of Africa strengthening its institutions to build a self-reliant and impactful future. He envisioned a continent powered by its youthful population, natural resources, and technological advancements.

Senior Executive Vice-President Denys Denya called for robust African institutions to navigate the evolving global landscape. He advocated for independent institutions, good governance, and regional cooperation to address Africa's challenges. Denya highlighted the urgency of industrialization, export diversification, and enhancing regional trade through the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

The meetings aim to bring together policymakers, the private sector, and academia to create actionable strategies for Africa’s socio-economic transformation.
