World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz has confirmed he will miss the French Open and upcoming clay-court tournaments due to a wrist injury.
In a post on his X account, Alcaraz said, “It’s a tough moment for me… I won’t be able to play in the upcoming tournaments.”
The Spaniard picked up the injury during his opening match at the Barcelona Open, where he initially played through discomfort before withdrawing from the tournament.
Subsequent medical tests revealed the injury was more serious than first thought, forcing him to also pull out of the Madrid Open.
The 22-year-old described the setback as disappointing but expressed hope of returning stronger after recovery.
The withdrawal means the defending champion will not be able to retain his Roland Garros title, dealing a major blow to the clay-court season.
His absence is also expected to impact the rivalry at the top of the ATP rankings, particularly with world No. 1 Jannik Sinner.
The timeline for his return remains uncertain as he focuses on rehabilitation.
