With just hours to go before Anambra heads to the polls, the Independent National Electoral Commission says it’s fully prepared to deliver a credible and transparent election on Saturday.

INEC chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, told reporters in Abuja that over two million voters are expected to cast their ballots across the state’s 21 local government areas.

He called the poll “a defining test for Nigeria’s democracy,” urging residents to turn out in large numbers.

“The greatest enemy to Anambra’s democracy is not violence — it’s voter apathy,” he warned.

INEC says it’s deploying 24,000 ad hoc staff, 6,879 BVAS devices, and 45,000 police officers to ensure smooth and secure voting at all 5,718 polling units.

To promote inclusion, Amupitan said the commission has partnered with TAFAfrica to provide sign language interpreters, allowing more than 3,400 voters with disabilities to participate.

Meanwhile, the European Union Election Observation Mission has deployed nearly 700 observers across the state to monitor logistics, turnout, and result transmission.

Security has also been tightened across Awka and nearby towns as residents make last-minute preparations for the big day.

“You’ve collected your PVCs. Security will protect you. INEC is ready for you,” Amupitan said. “So come out on Saturday — vote freely, vote peacefully, vote proudly.”
