The Anambra State government will implement a new digital tax collection system from July.

Governor Chukwuma Soludo announced a ban on revenue collection by individuals, government ministries, departments, and agencies at a meeting of transport and market union leaders in Awka.

The meeting was called to mark the lifting of the three-month suspension of revenue collection from the members of the unions in order to allow the government to reform its tax collection.

Governor Soludo said Anambra State would only be able to stay economically viable through increasing internally-generated revenue (IGR), especially with Nigeria’s falling oil production and revenue.

The governor also revealed his plan to revolutionise the state’s transportation system.

He announced that all public motor parks will be manned by public servants, who will ensure that transporters have valid permits to operate.
