The All Progressives Congress (APC) is stepping up political mobilisation efforts ahead of key elections in two states, with a major rally in Lagos and preparations for a bye-election in Oyo State.
In Lagos, over 3,000 residents of Epe Division gathered at the Epe Recreation Centre on Tuesday for a mega rally organised by the APC in support of its chairmanship and councillorship candidates ahead of the July 12 local government elections.
The event featured party faithful, community leaders, and youths in a show of solidarity.
Mr. Akanni Seriki, a member of the Lagos State Governor’s Advisory Council, said the turnout reflected trust in the APC's grassroots impact.
“This is proof of our people’s confidence in the APC administration and its commitment to development at the local level,” Seriki said.
Also speaking at the rally, former Lagos Assembly Speaker Adeyemi Ikuforiji urged voters to support candidates who understand their communities' unique needs.
“Local governments play a pivotal role in socio-economic development. Let us elect leaders who can truly serve the people,” he said.
Council leaders across Epe division also took turns to highlight the APC’s achievements.
Eredo LCDA Chairman Monsuru Akinloye praised the support from party members, while Epe LG Chairman Surah Animashaun listed improvements in health, education, and infrastructure under her administration.
In Ikosi-Ejinrin and Ibeju-Lekki, council chairmen Wale Anomo and Sesan Olowa pledged continued investment in infrastructure and youth empowerment.
APC DRUMS UP SUPPORT IN IBADAN
Meanwhile, in Oyo State, the APC is preparing for the Ibadan North Federal Constituency bye-election following the death of Hon. Musiliu Olaide Akinremi.
At a stakeholders’ meeting in Ibadan on Tuesday, the APC state chairman Alhaji Olayide Abas called for unity ahead of the party primary.
“It is unfortunate we lost one of our best performing elected officials in Hon. Musiliu Olaide Akinremi,” Abas said. “But we are committed to presenting another performer who will continue his legacy.”
He confirmed receipt of INEC’s election timetable and said the party would hold a membership revalidation exercise from July 2 to 5 across all 12 wards in Ibadan North.
“We’ve not yet decided on the primary mode. Options like consensus, direct, or indirect are still being considered. What we assure is fairness and justice,” Abas said.
Party leaders led by Alhaji Bello Adeleke Oladeji expressed confidence in the state leadership and pledged to work as a team to ensure victory.
“This bye-election is a litmus test for the APC ahead of the next general election. We are ready,” Oladeji said.
