Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri has signed the ₦1.01 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, following its passage by the Bayelsa State House of Assembly.
Diri initially presented a ₦998.371 billion budget estimate to lawmakers, but the assembly reviewed the figure upward by ₦17.7 billion (about 1.77 percent) before final approval.
The governor also assented to six other bills alongside the budget inside Government House, Yenagoa.
These include laws on rural access funds, rural road authority, water sector governance, statistics, harmonised taxes and levies, and an amendment to the Bayelsa Medical University Act.
Diri thanked the state assembly for its timely passage of the budget and expressed his administration’s commitment to fully implementing the 2026 fiscal plan, maintaining consistent budget cycles similar to the outgoing year.
The Speaker of the House, Abraham Ingobere, described the “Budget of ASSURED Prosperity II” as more than legislation, saying its upward review reflects responsiveness to the state’s current economic needs and the aspirations of Bayelsans across infrastructure, healthcare, education, and agriculture.
