Hundreds of supporters and former top government officials gathered at the Port Harcourt International Airport on Friday morning to welcome Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, following the suspension of emergency rule in the state.

Former commissioners, local government chairmen, and nearly all members of the governor’s cabinet were spotted at the VIP wing of the airport, waiting for his arrival.

Many of Fubara’s supporters turned up in colourful attire, singing and dancing as they filled the airport premises in anticipation.

The governor is expected to land at the VIP section of the airport momentarily, marking his first public appearance since the restoration of full democratic governance in Rivers State.

The state had been under a six-month emergency rule imposed in March, during which Governor Fubara, his deputy, and lawmakers were suspended from office.

The suspension was lifted earlier this week, allowing political activities to resume.

This is a developing story.
