A building collapse in the early hours of Thursday has left at least four people injured on Adeniji Adele Road, Isale Eko, Lagos Island.
According to eyewitnesses, the rear section of a multi-storey building gave way around Sasi Lane, causing panic in the densely populated neighbourhood.
Emergency responders, including operatives from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the Nigerian Police, and other rescue agencies, arrived swiftly at the scene and commenced rescue operations. Several trapped individuals were successfully pulled from the rubble and taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
In a statement posted on its verified X handle, LASTMA said:
"The emergency responders are still in action at the unfortunate incident scene along Adeniji Adele road, at Sasi Lane, Isale Eko.
Victims rescued from the building have been taken to the hospital for treatment."
LASTMA also confirmed that traffic in the area has been diverted to ease movement and support rescue operations. Officials have cordoned off the area and initiated structural assessments to determine the cause and stability of surrounding buildings.
The incident has reignited public concern over building safety standards, especially in Lagos Island, where ageing infrastructure and unauthorised construction practices persist.
