...Court orders all parties involved to maintain status quo

A federal high court sitting in Abuja has on Monday restricted the Zamfara State House of Assembly, the Chief Judge, and others from carrying out a planned impeachment of the state’s Deputy Governor, Mahdi Gusau.

Justice Obiora Egwuatu gave the ruling following an ex-parte motion filed by the lawyer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ogwu Onoja.

Onoja prayed on the court to grant an interim order stopping the state governor, the speaker, and the state's chief judge from impeaching the deputy governor.

Justice Egwuatu in his ruling ordered parties involved to maintain the status quo pending hearing a motion filed by the plaintiff.

It is worthy of note that politics in Zamfara state has taken a different turn since the deputy governor of the state, Mahdi Gusau declined to join his boss, governor Bello Matawalle who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
