The Enugu State Government has received new security equipment, including two long-range drones, 10 Hilux patrol vehicles, 40 motorbikes, 400 bulletproof vests and 400 helmets, to strengthen the fight against crime across the state.

The items were donated on Monday by the Enugu State Security Trust Fund (ESSTF) during a presentation ceremony at Government House, Enugu.

The equipment is part of efforts to expand surveillance, improve rapid response, and enhance the safety of security personnel as the state deepens its security reform programme.

Governor Peter Mbah inaugurated the ESSTF on February 13, 2024, as part of his administration’s strategy to mobilise resources, support security agencies and make Enugu “the safest state to live, work and invest in.”

Presenting the gadgets, the Deputy Chairman of ESSTF, Nathaniel Udeh, said the items were procured from donations raised during the Trust Fund’s inaugural fundraising.

“You gave us a clear assignment when you inaugurated the Security Trust Fund,” Udeh told the governor.
“You said you wanted people to see Enugu as the safest state—a place where everyone feels comfortable and confident to invest. We have not forgotten that assignment.”

He added that the new tools would further support the government’s campaign to rid the state of criminal elements.

Governor Mbah thanked the Trust Fund for its commitment and praised security agencies for their role in improving safety in the state.

GOV MBAH

“We can confidently say today that violent crimes have been reduced by over 80 per cent in Enugu State,” he said.
“But we are not resting, because the criminals we are dealing with are also not resting.”

The governor stressed that security requires continual investment, noting that even a single breach could undermine months of progress. He assured that the new equipment would be deployed strategically for maximum impact.

The Executive Secretary of ESSTF, Chinedu Anih, said the new gadgets will expand the state’s capacity to use technology in crime prevention.

“We decided to go for drones with the latest technology,” Anih explained.
“The drones can cover every part of Enugu State and beyond with incredible speed.”

Anih also commended Governor Mbah for providing strong support during the Trust Fund’s establishment and fundraising process.
