Former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode has cautioned political actors against invoking “Operation Wetie” in Nigeria’s current political discourse.

In a post on X, he described the reference as dangerous, warning that it recalls a violent period in the country’s history.

Fani Kayode noted that the original Operation Wetie in the South West led to widespread unrest, political instability and eventual military intervention.

He urged those making such remarks to be mindful of their words, stressing that inflammatory rhetoric could heighten tensions.

The former minister also questioned the choice of Ibadan as the venue for the recent opposition summit, citing its historical link to the 1965 crisis.

He further referenced past conflicts, including the Nigerian Civil War, as examples of how political tensions can escalate.

Fani Kayode emphasised the need for restraint, adding that political outcomes should reflect the will of the people in the 2027 elections.
