As the Nigerian Labour Congress' nationwide protest gathers momentum, vehicular movements around the Federal Capital Territory have slowed with most of the roads becoming empty on Wednesday.

The situation is not unconnected with the restriction of human and vehicular movement into the heart of the capital city by security personnel who barricaded roads leading to the city center.

The ever-busy Nyanya-Karu axis which accommodates the majority of residents working in government and private establishments in the heart of Abuja, was quiet Wednesday morning as most residents stayed indoors after receiving information about the military barricade around the Kugbo area of the Abuja-Keffi highway.

Armed security personnel were stationed at various intersections from AYA through Kugbo to Masaka

The armed personnel were seen thoroughly screening motorists before allowing them to pass through while others were turned back.

A member of the  Riders Owners Motorcycles Association of Nigeria, an affiliate of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Solomon Damina, expressed his union's solidarity with the NLC protest.

Damina however called on the government and organised Labor to quickly reach an agreement and resolve the contending issues.
