The Federal Government has evacuated 39 more Nigerians from Johannesburg, South Africa, on an emergency Air Peace flight arranged for citizens who were unable to return on Thursday's evacuation flight.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, saying the additional flight was organised to ensure those who missed the earlier evacuation were brought home without disrupting the ongoing schedule.

She said the arrangement would prevent any spillover into the pre-scheduled evacuation flights for Nigerians who completed their documentation within the stipulated deadline.

According to the minister, the flight is expected to arrive at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, at 8:50 p.m. on Friday.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu commended Air Peace for providing the additional flight and facilitating the emergency operation.

She also disclosed that the final flight under the evacuation exercise, expected to bring home about 300 more Nigerians, will arrive in the country next week.

The minister reaffirmed the Federal Government's commitment to the safety and protection of Nigerians affected by the ongoing xenophobic attacks in South Africa.
