The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, says the Federal Government is stepping up the prosecution of terrorism suspects as part of efforts to strengthen national security and combat insurgency.

Fagbemi made the statement in Abuja at the commencement of a new phase of mass terrorism trials involving hundreds of suspects facing various terrorism-related charges.

He said the administration is treating terrorism as a serious national threat and remains committed to ensuring that those accused of terrorism offences are brought to justice through due process.

According to him, the ongoing proceedings represent the fourth phase of terrorism trials under the current administration.

Fagbemi disclosed that about 600 suspects are expected to stand trial in the latest phase, with 490 appearing on the opening day and another 84 scheduled for subsequent proceedings, alongside cases carried over from earlier phases.

He added that judges handling the cases have been assured of the necessary support to speed up the hearing process and ensure timely delivery of justice.

The Attorney-General said the prosecutions form part of the Federal Government’s broader efforts to tackle terrorism, insurgency and other security challenges across the country.
