The Federal High Court in Abuja has restrained Mr Omoyele Sowore, publisher of Sahara Reporters, and others from staging protests in designated areas of Abuja, including Aso Rock Villa, on Monday.

The court’s order is in connection with planned demonstrations calling for the release of detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

The court’s injunction also covers the National Assembly, Force Headquarters, Court of Appeal, Eagle Square, and Shehu Shagari Way, pending the hearing of a motion scheduled for October 20, 2025.

The order was granted on Friday by Justice Mohammed Umar following an ex parte motion filed by the police on behalf of the Federal Government.

Contrary to earlier media reports, the court did not adjourn the matter until October 21 but set the hearing date for October 20 at 9 a.m., and ordered that the respondents be served with the court order and motion on October 17.

The police filed the motion against Sowore, Sahara Reporters Ltd, Sahara Reporters Media Foundation, Take It Back Movement, and other individuals or groups involved in organizing protests for Kanu’s release.

Sowore had been mobilizing for what he described as a peaceful protest against Kanu’s detention.

Meanwhile, discussions continue around finding political solutions to Kanu’s trial, as he faces terrorism charges at the Federal High Court presided over by Justice James Omotosho.
