The governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje has ordered the immediate demolition of all structures built on the Kwarin-Gogau stream in the metropolitan area.
The Commissioner for Information, Muhammad Garba, briefed journalists about this after the State Executive Council meeting on Wednesday.
Mallam Garba said the government has marked all structures on drainage lines around the Kantin-Kwari Market for demolition.
“The council directed that all temporary structures mounted on the drainage system within and around the market should be removed with immediate effect,” he said.
The demolition would ensure all the obstacles against the smooth flow of storm and wastewater in the area are cleared, he added.
The decision was taken after the government received the report of the Rapid Assessment of Flooding in the state submitted by the Commissioners for Works and Environment, Idris Wada and Kabiru Getso.
