The Nigerian Governors’ Forum has strongly supported President Bola Tinubu's decision to end fuel subsidy payments.

The governors took turns to speak when the president hosted them at the State House in Abuja on Wednesday.

They said they were happy with the subsidy-removal decision and other early policy initiatives of the administration.

President Tinubu had earlier called on the governors to collaborate with the federal government in tackling poverty in the country, saying the level of impoverishment was unacceptable.

He advised the governors and other political leaders to downplay their differences and jointly focus on alleviating the sufferings and pains of the people.

President Tinubu added that the education sector must be improved as part of efforts to reduce poverty and penury.

The chairman of the Governors Forum, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq of Kwara State, promised that the governors would assist the federal government in meeting its human capital development targets.

Oil Marketers Support Subsidy Removal

Major oil marketers and distributors have also pledged their support for the removal of fuel subsidies.

The marketers voiced their support on Wednesday during a courtesy visit to President Tinubu.

The chairman of the Depots and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria, Winifred Akpani, said Nigerians will begin to profit from the policy by July.

She promised that the marketers will donate between fifty to a hundred buses to cushion the effects of the subsidy removal on the masses.

The oil marketers were led to the meeting by the governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, who was the chairman of the Depot and Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria before going into partisan politics.
