Guinea’s Supreme Court on Sunday confirmed junta leader Mamady Doumbouya as president, validating his election victory with 86.72 percent of the vote.
The court said runner up Abdoulaye Yero Balde, who had challenged the result, later withdrew his petition voluntarily.
Speaking after the confirmation, Doumbouya called for national unity and urged Guineans to focus on building a peaceful and prosperous country.
Doumbouya came to power after a 2021 military takeover that removed former president Alpha Conde.
The election, which excluded major opposition figures, now formally legitimises his leadership.
