The Israeli military said Hezbollah rocket fire struck Saint George's Orthodox Church in southeastern Lebanon, damaging the religious site and nearby buildings.

According to the Israel Defense Forces, several rockets launched overnight hit structures in a predominantly Christian community, including the church affiliated with the Greek Orthodox Church of Antioch.

The military said Israeli forces were not operating in the area at the time of the strike.

"This incident further proves how Hezbollah continues to endanger and harm Lebanese civilians," the Israeli military said in a statement.

U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee also condemned the attack.

"The obstacle to peace between Israel and Lebanon is neither Israel nor Lebanon. It's Hezbollah," Huckabee wrote on social media.

There was no immediate comment from Hezbollah regarding the reported strike.

The incident comes amid continued tensions along the Israel-Lebanon border despite ongoing international efforts to prevent a wider regional conflict.
