Operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission on Thursday raided the Abuja residence of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, his media aide, Muyiwa Adekeye, confirmed.

The search comes amid an ongoing investigation into alleged financial misconduct during El‑Rufai’s tenure.

His lawyer, Ubong Akpan, described the raid as “unlawful and a violation of legal procedures and fundamental rights.”

El‑Rufai has been in ICPC custody since Wednesday night, following his release on administrative bail by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, which had earlier detained him on Monday after he honored the commission’s invitation.

ICPC spokesperson John Odey confirmed the former governor is being questioned but declined to provide further details.

Investigations are ongoing, and it remains unclear if any items were seized during the raid.

The detention and home search come amid overlapping scrutiny from multiple anti-graft agencies over alleged financial irregularities during his administration.
