Nigeria’s police leadership is rolling out fresh reforms as security concerns persist across the country.

Inspector General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu has convened an emergency meeting with top officers in Abuja to review operations and tighten accountability.

The meeting brought together senior police commanders from across the country.

Disu said the force must become more transparent, intelligence driven, and responsive to Nigeria’s changing security challenges.

He also addressed a recent extra judicial killing in Delta State, describing it as unacceptable.

According to him, the officers involved have been dismissed and their case sent for prosecution.

The police boss also revealed major operational figures for April.

He said 28 suspected terrorists, 85 kidnapping suspects, 62 armed robbery suspects, and several others were arrested.

Police also rescued 189 kidnap victims and recovered firearms, ammunition, and stolen vehicles.

As part of the reforms, the IGP announced the creation of a new Violent Crime Response Unit to tackle serious crimes.

He also directed police commissioners nationwide to strengthen community policing and make their contact details easily available to the public.

Disu says the goal is simple - build professionalism, restore public trust, and improve security nationwide.
