President Bola Tinubu has removed the existing Service Chiefs and appointed General Olufemi Oluyede as the new Chief of Defence Staff, replacing General Christopher Musa.

In the sweeping shake-up announced on Friday, the President also approved:

Major-General W. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff. The Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, will remain in his role.

A statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Media & Public Communication, Sunday Dare, said the restructuring is part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s national security architecture.

President Tinubu thanked the outgoing military leaders for their “patriotic service and dedicated leadership,” while charging the new appointees to uphold professionalism, vigilance and unity within the Armed Forces.

All appointments take immediate effect.
