A Federal High Court in Katsina has sentenced a woman, Hauwa'u Mukhtar, to death by hanging after convicting her on terrorism-related charges brought by the Department of State Services.

The court found Mukhtar guilty of conspiracy, aiding and abetting terrorism after prosecutors proved she attempted to transport 438 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition to a notorious bandit leader in Zamfara State.

Mukhtar was arrested by DSS operatives at Jibia Motor Park in September 2023 while allegedly conveying the ammunition to a bandit kingpin identified as Ado.

Justice A.B. Bawale, who presided over the case, held that the prosecution established its case beyond reasonable doubt based on witness testimonies and exhibits tendered before the court.

The judgment marks the second death sentence secured by the DSS this month in terrorism-related prosecutions.

A security source described the conviction as "a significant milestone" in efforts to combat terrorism financing and logistics networks.

The ruling comes weeks after another female arms courier, Halima Haliru Umar, was sentenced to 20 years' imprisonment for unlawful possession of ammunition and attempting to support terrorist activities.
