The Lagos State Government has announced an eight-month traffic diversion plan on the Lekki-Ajah corridor to accommodate extensive road rehabilitation work aimed at improving road quality and easing traffic flow.

The project is scheduled to begin Saturday, Nov. 15, 2025, and conclude Wednesday, July 15, 2026.

Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation Oluwaseun Osiyemi confirmed the plan Wednesday, explaining that the work will be executed in two phases to minimize disruption.

Phase 1: Lekki 1st Toll Gate to Lekki 2nd Toll Gate
The initial phase will cover seven sections of the expressway. During construction, one of the two existing lanes will be closed, with motorists utilizing the second lane. Once the closed lane is finished, work will switch to the other.

The commissioner assured commuters that traffic to both Lekki and Ajah will remain accessible throughout this phase.
Phase 2: Lekki 2nd Toll Gate to Ajah Under-Bridge.

The second phase will focus on four sections of the road. Traffic from Ajah heading inward toward Lekki will be diverted to a single lane while repairs are underway on the opposite lane.
Osiyemi noted that motorists driving toward Ajah will experience continuous movement during this phase.

The state government appealed for cooperation and patience from residents, emphasizing that the temporary inconvenience is necessary to deliver long-term benefits in alignment with Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to infrastructural renewal and sustainable urban mobility. Motorists are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and follow all traffic directions.
