The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service says it has successfully contained two separate fire incidents that broke out overnight in Agege and Yaba.

In a statement on Saturday, the agency said the first fire was reported at about 10:46 p.m. on Friday at Tower Aluminum Village along Abeokuta Expressway in Dopemu, Agege.

Firefighters from Ikeja and Agege stations responded quickly and “effectively doused the fire,” which affected several offices and stores of different sizes.

The agency said the buildings, located on about 2,592 square meters within a larger four-acre property, suffered “significant damage to affected sections and their contents.”

A second fire occurred around 3:15 a.m. on Saturday at a three-storey commercial building on Oyabiyi Street, opposite the NLC office in Tejuosho, Yaba.

The building contained shops filled with stacked textile materials, which were easily caught by the flames, according to the statement.

Fire crews from Somolu, Ilupeju and Sari Iganmu stations were deployed and “successfully contained the blaze, preventing further spread to adjoining properties.”

The fire service said both incidents were handled with “professionalism and rapid response,” ensuring that the fires did not spread and that no casualties were recorded.

The Controller General, Margaret Adeseye, urged the public to take safety seriously, stressing the “importance of fire safety precautions,” especially in commercial areas.

She also called on residents to remain alert, while investigations are ongoing to determine the causes of both fires.
