The National Economic Council (NEC) has approved ₦100 billion, pending final ratification by President Bola Tinubu, for the rehabilitation of police and security training institutions across Nigeria.

The decision was reached at NEC’s 154th virtual meeting on Wednesday, chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima.

This approval follows recommendations from an ad-hoc committee tasked with assessing the dire condition of these facilities nationwide.

The council also allocated ₦2.6 billion for consultancy services to support the project.

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, who chaired the committee, emphasized the urgency of upgrading the training centers.

“Most of our training institutions are in dire condition and need immediate intervention,” he said during his presentation.

Vice President Shettima reaffirmed the government’s commitment, urging governors to ensure that reforms produce tangible results for Nigerians.

“Our task is not to admire problems but to solve them,” Shettima said. “Governance must translate into real improvements in communities, schools, and markets.”

The overhaul is part of President Tinubu’s broader plan, announced in October, to strengthen security agencies by improving their training capacity and infrastructure nationwide.
