The Federal Government has approved a monthly transport allowance of ₦70,000 for Nigerian workers for six months, beginning in November 2026, to cushion the impact of rising petrol prices.
The approval was one of the resolutions reached at a conciliation meeting between the Federal Government and the Nigeria Labour Congress at the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
The meeting also resolved that outstanding peculiar allowances would be paid in three equal monthly instalments beginning in November.
In addition, the government agreed to settle 19 months of outstanding allowances owed to health workers within three months, starting in December 2026.
The meeting further agreed that the issue of tax relief for workers would be presented to the National Executive Council for consideration.
The Minimum Wage Negotiation Committee is also expected to be constituted and begin meetings immediately.
