Nigeria’s crude oil production rose to 1.71 million barrels per day between April 2025 and April 2026, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) says, marking the country’s highest output level in five years.

NNPC Group Chief Executive Officer Bayo Ojulari disclosed the figures in the company’s One-Year Mandate Report Summary posted on X, noting that upstream output improvements and operational reforms drove the increase.

The report showed that NNPC Exploration and Production Limited hit a record 565,000 barrels per day in December 2025, while gas production was sustained at 7.5 billion standard cubic feet per day.

Ojulari said key infrastructure milestones, including the completion of the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano pipeline river crossing and the commissioning of major gas processing projects, strengthened supply reliability.

“We have improved operational performance across the value chain, from production to gas development and infrastructure delivery,” Ojulari said.

NNPC also reported expanded gas supply agreements with major industrial users, including Dangote Cement and Dangote Refinery, alongside new partnerships aimed at boosting domestic gas utilisation.

The company said it consolidated its 7.25% equity stake in the Dangote refinery and introduced an incorporated joint venture model for refineries to improve efficiency and financial independence.

It also announced reforms including monthly performance reporting, its first earnings call in November 2025, and consistent remittances to the federation account since July 2025.

NNPC said the results reflect ongoing reforms aimed at improving transparency, production growth, and investment confidence in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
