NiMet Forecasts Thunderstorms, Rainfall Across Nigeria from July 21 to 23

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a fresh weather advisory, forecasting thunderstorms and varying intensities of rainfall across the country from Monday, July 21 to Wednesday, July 23, 2025.

In a bulletin posted on its official X handle, NiMet predicted unsettled weather across the Northern, Central, and Southern regions, with a mix of moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds.

North: Thunderstorms and rainfall are expected from Sunday through Wednesday across Taraba, Adamawa, Kebbi, Bauchi, Borno, Yobe, Gombe, Sokoto, Kano, Katsina, Kaduna, and Jigawa.

Central: The FCT, Plateau, Niger, Kogi, Benue, and Kwara will experience cloudy mornings, followed by thunderstorms and moderate rains in the afternoon and evening hours.

South: Light to heavy rainfall will span Imo, Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, Delta, Ondo, Bayelsa, and Edo states, with increasing intensity from Monday through Wednesday.

NiMet warned that strong winds may precede many rainfall events, especially in storm-prone areas. It urged the public to:

Fasten loose objects,

Avoid driving during downpours,

Disconnect electrical appliances,

Stay away from tall trees and flooded areas.

Airline operators are also advised to obtain airport-specific weather updates for flight planning. Residents are encouraged to stay informed via www.nimet.gov.ng.
