Ahead of  his scheduled hearing at the Federal High Court in Abuja, detained IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has written to U.S. President Donald Trump, alleging a hidden genocide against Judeo-Christians in Nigeria’s South-East.

The four-page letter was shared on Thursday, Nov.6, by his lawyer, Alloy Ejimakor.

Kanu described his terrorism-related trial as politically motivated and urged U.S. support for a supervised referendum on self-determination for the Igbo people. He called on Trump to investigate alleged state-sponsored killings in the region.

In the letter, Kanu  claimed he was forcibly abducted from Kenya in June 2021, violating international law, and remains in detention despite a court ordering his release in October 2022.

He alleged extremist groups like Boko Haram, ISWAP, and Fulani militias operate with state complicity in South-East Nigeria and accused the military of targeting Christians under the guise of counter-terrorism operations.

Kanu urged Trump to launch a U.S.-led inquiry, convene congressional hearings, and impose targeted sanctions on military and security officials implicated in violence.

“History will judge us by what we do when genocide knocks. You have the power to stop a second Rwanda in Africa. One tweet, one sanction, one inquiry could save millions.” he said.

He also called for support for a peaceful, internationally supervised Igbo referendum.
