The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) says the planned re-entry into Ogoniland marks a historic milestone for Nigeria
In a statement on Friday, NNPC’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Bashir Ojulari, described the development as more than an oil and gas venture, but a bold step toward healing and inclusive growth.
He said the re-entry is a reaffirmation of NNPC’s commitment to transform Ogoniland into a “beacon of reconciliation, renewal, and sustainable progress,” backed by infrastructure investments, road construction, and economic empowerment programmes.
Ojulari credited the breakthrough to the leadership of National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, who convened a multi-stakeholder committee chaired by Prof. Don Baridam.
Oil production in Ogoniland has been suspended since 1993, following protests over environmental degradation that culminated in the 1995 execution of Ken Saro-Wiwa and eight other activists.
