A notorious bandit commander known as Kachalla Sani Yellow has been killed during a gun battle with local hunters and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The incident occurred after the security volunteers repelled an attack by armed bandits on communities in the area, according to local sources.

Kachalla Sani Yellow was widely regarded as one of the most influential bandit leaders operating in Zamfara.

He was linked to repeated attacks, kidnappings and killings across Anka, Bukkuyum and Maru local government areas, where residents have endured years of armed violence.

Security sources said Yellow was among the commanders believed to have coordinated several deadly raids on communities across Nigeria's North-West, contributing to the region's worsening insecurity.

Confirming the development, Zamfara State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, said the bandit leader had been killed during the confrontation.

"Yes, I can confirm that Kachalla Sani Yellow was killed," Abubakar said.

Images purportedly showing Yellow's body later circulated widely on social media.

The photographs appeared to show his remains after they had been mutilated.

Authorities have not commented on the authenticity of the images or the circumstances surrounding their circulation.

The killing marks another setback for armed groups operating in Zamfara, where security forces and local vigilante groups have intensified operations against bandit networks.

Despite recent successes, attacks on rural communities continue to pose a major security challenge across the North-West.
