The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed over 57,000 personnel nationwide to ensure safety during the Easter celebrations, as part of efforts to prevent attacks and maintain public order.
The Commandant-General of the Corps, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, approved the large-scale deployment, which covers all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The agency said the move is aimed at guaranteeing a “secure and peaceful Easter celebration across the federation.”
According to the NSCDC’s spokesperson, ACC Afolabi Babawale, the operation includes officers from specialised tactical units and intelligence teams.
He described the deployment as a “strategic move to fortify national security and protect citizens during the festive period.”
Security will be intensified at high-traffic and vulnerable locations, including churches, shopping complexes, parks, and recreational centres.
Babawale said these areas will be placed under strict surveillance using both visible patrols and undercover operatives to “identify and neutralise criminal elements before they can act.”
Audi also directed commanders across zones and states to maintain full oversight and ensure effective coordination with other security agencies.
He stressed that the success of the operation depends on teamwork and quick response to intelligence from the public.
“Our goal is a seamless and secure Easter season.
“We are working hand-in-hand with sister agencies to maintain order,” Audi said, while urging parents to guide their children and avoid activities that could disrupt peace.
The Corps added that elite units, including the Special Intelligence Squad and Crack Squad, have been placed on alert to respond swiftly to threats.
The deployment comes amid ongoing security concerns in parts of the country, with authorities seeking to reassure citizens during the busy holiday period.
