The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has endorsed Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal for a second term, citing his administration’s efforts to improve infrastructure and the transport sector.
The union also honoured Lawal with an Award of Excellence on Wednesday at the Dome Pavilion, Government House, Gusau.
A statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, said the NURTW delegation was led by its Board Chairman, Dr. Najeem Usman Yasin, and included National President Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, and other senior officials.
Yasin said the union decided to honour the governor after observing his achievements in three years in office.
“Governor Lawal is surely a gift to Zamfara State. With the transformation he has achieved in three years, he has brought Zamfara to world standards,” he said.
Yasin also called on NURTW members to support Lawal’s re-election bid in 2027, saying the endorsement was intended to promote continuity in his administration’s development efforts.
Lawal said the recognition reflected growing cooperation between his government and the transport sector.
He said his administration had distributed 50 subsidised mass-transit vehicles to NURTW members to improve livelihoods and public transportation, while also renovating the Zamfara State Council Secretariat.
“I accept the Award of Excellence as a recognition of our efforts and a pledge to do more,” Lawal said, adding that the endorsement affirmed that his policies were having an impact on ordinary citizens.
