The former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has threatened to sue Deji Adeyanju, a political activist and convener of the Concerned Nigerians group.

The legal action is in response to a series of statements made by Adeyanju on the social media platforms X and Facebook that Obi's legal team has described as false and defamatory.

In a letter written by the law firm of Alex Ejesieme and Co. and addressed to Adeyanju, the activist is accused of repeatedly publishing "false, malicious, and grossly defamatory statements" concerning Obi, "calculated to injure his reputation before right-thinking members of the Nigerian public and the international community."

The letter references several X posts made by Adeyanju in which he describes Obi as a religious bigot, a fraud, a product of bad upbringing, scum, and a thief.

Obi's lawyers are demanding the immediate deletion of all the posts. They are also insisting on a "full, unreserved, unqualified, and public apology" to Obi on Adeyanju's social media handles and three daily newspapers.

Adeyanju responded with an X post, saying he laughed "so hard" when he received the letter, while anticipating a court case.

The activist, known for his controversial and often blunt political commentary, has frequently used his platforms to express skepticism about Obi's political movement and his economic policies.
