Thousands of bank customers gathered at the Kano branch of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to deposit their old naira notes on Thursday.

They came with hundreds of thousands packed in nylons, school bags, and cartons. But they separated the old N200 notes following President Muhammadu Buhari's speech earlier in the day.

There were a few armed operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS) and the police on the ground to enforce law and order.

When asked why they kept the old notes till today, some blamed the Kano State government for its counter order threatening to sanction whoever rejects the old notes.

They, however, appealed that commercial banks be allowed to continue collecting the old notes to ease the crowd at the CBN office.
