The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has appointed Nigeria’s former Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, to lead its Election Observation Mission to Côte d’Ivoire.

The announcement was made in a statement released by the ECOWAS Commission on Sunday in Abuja.

Osinbajo will head a team of respected West African figures tasked with observing Côte d’Ivoire’s upcoming presidential election, scheduled for October 25.

In line with ECOWAS protocols, the mission will be deployed from October 19 to 29, during which it will engage national stakeholders, promote collaboration with other international and domestic observer groups, and assess the electoral process.

According to ECOWAS, the deployment underscores the regional body’s firm commitment to supporting peace, stability, and credible democratic processes in West Africa.
