The Oyo State Police Command says it has arrested a suspect in connection with the abduction of a 20-year-old farmer in Igboti Village, while efforts continue to rescue the victim and apprehend other gang members.
In a statement, the command said the breakthrough followed swift and coordinated operations after a report was received on June 19 at about 9 a.m. that armed men had invaded Igboti Village via Okutalogun earlier that day.
Police said about eight armed men, carrying firearms and cutlasses, abducted the victim, identified as Michael Benua, and took him to an unknown location.
The attackers also allegedly stole ₦1.24 million and 50,000 CFA.
The Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Olugbenga, ordered a joint manhunt involving police operatives, the Amotekun Corps and local hunters to comb surrounding bushes and nearby areas.
The command said one suspect, identified as Yahaya Auta, 23, was arrested during the operation and has allegedly confessed to being part of the gang.
It added that the suspect is assisting investigators in efforts to rescue the victim and track down other fleeing members of the syndicate.
The police said the Anti-Kidnapping Squad has intensified operations in the area as search-and-rescue efforts continue.
The command assured residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property and urged the public to provide timely and credible information to aid ongoing operations.
