The Vice Chairman of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in Kano State, Aminu Tudunwada, says people with disabilities are valuable contributors to society and not a burden.

Speaking on Friday in Kano, Alhaji Tudunwada said members of the PWD community are responsible, determined, and capable of reshaping perceptions through their hard work and resilience.

He urged PWDs to remain active participants in community development by pursuing their dreams and demonstrating their value to society.

Tudunwada also commended the state government’s empowerment programmes, noting that vocational training has enabled many PWDs to become self-reliant in trades such as welding, tailoring, construction, and furniture making.

According to him, these initiatives have led to an estimated 80 per cent reduction in street begging across Kano State.

“Our members are now involved in welding, furniture making, tailoring, construction, and other trades that are boosting the economy of Kano State,” he said.

Tudunwada appealed to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to provide a permanent site for the PWD cluster to enhance productivity and coordination. He also urged PWDs to continue breaking barriers, advocating for their rights, and promoting inclusion in their communities.

“We believe in ability in disability, and with the right support, we can contribute even more to society,” Tudunwada said.
