The Rivers State House of Assembly has resolved to investigate the state’s finances during the six-month tenure of Ibok-Ete Ibas, who served as sole administrator.

The resolution was passed during the assembly’s first plenary since last Thursday. Lawmakers also directed Governor Siminalayi Fubara to submit a list of commissioner nominees for screening.

During his time as sole administrator, Ibas was unable to complete the reconstruction of the state assembly complex.

His appointment followed President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of emergency rule in Rivers on March 18, after a prolonged political crisis stemming from the rift between Governor Fubara and Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike.

Tinubu had suspended Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Nma Odu, and members of the assembly for an initial six-month period before appointing Ibas to oversee the state.
